Word of the Day: él
Translation: he, him, it
Pronunciation: el

Gender can be confusing when translating Spanish into English. Sometimes “he” is “él” sometimes he’s a “lo” or a “se” and sometimes “he” slips right into the verb and disappears completely! Isn’t that just like a guy?

Additionally, el, without the acento, generally means “he” accept when it means “the” but “él” with the acento always means “he” except when “él” means “it.”

Clear? No? Me neither. So just say “el” when referring to he or him or it and let your friends sort it all out.
